Home Furniture and Decoration
Adding new home furniture and decoration is an exciting way to transform your space. Whether you’re starting from scratch or revamping an existing room, there are a few big decisions to make and a lot of options to consider. The first step is to map out your space – where will sofas and chairs go, for example? And then think about things like storage, rugs and paint colours.
Generally speaking, there is a clear difference between furniture and home decor, although the two sometimes overlap. The biggest distinction is that furniture is functional – it’s made to be used – while home decor is purely aesthetic, and adds personality to a room. Furniture is also typically larger in size and sturdier than home decor items, which can be as small as a candle or picture frame.
When it comes to furniture, there are a wide variety of styles and materials to choose from. From traditional pine chests and stick-back country chairs to sleek glass and metal modern tables, the possibilities are endless. In general, however, furniture is usually designed to support activities such as seating and sleeping (chairs and couches), eating (tables), working, and storing items.
To create a cohesive look, try repeating patterns in adjoining spaces. For example, in this living area, the striped fabric on the dining chairs is repeated on accent pillows and drapes to tie the room together. A patterned rug also adds extra visual interest, without making the space feel matchy-matchy.
