John Cena – American Actor and Professional Wrestler

The all time wrestling great, John Cena is a professional wrestler and actor who has won various WWE championships, with the total count reaching 16. When it comes to his persona, John specializes as a character who loves to rap and even challenges his opponents to a rap battle, wearing a gold chain and a backwards cap, essentially portraying a role as the “Thuganomics doctor”.

He launched his career in music by releasing his group album skateboarding on the classics with his cousin Tha Trademarc in 2005. His entrance theme, along with various singles were a part of the album.

Born in West Newbury Massachusetts.

During his childhood years, watching sports and doing workouts was a sheer passion for John Cena. A lot of times he would team up with his brothers and try to mimic their favorite wrestlers which were quite an interesting thing to watch. He also at some point took interest in music, and of course later on became a successful rapper as well as an actor.

John Cena has also received critical acclaim by performing roles in movies such as The Marine (2006), 12 Rounds (2009) and Legendary (2010) apart from the WWE ring. He has also performed voice work for the animated films Breed (2015), Ferdinand (2017) and Blockers (2018). Along with that, in 2019 he even had an eponymous TV series on HBO Max called Playing With Fire, and also released a rap album that goes by the title You Can’t See Me.

Outside of wrestling and his roles in films, Cena has engaged into charity work through the Make-a-wish foundation as well. For kids, he has also written a book series like the Elbow Grease, where a kid is encouraged not to lose themselves but to be comfortable in their own skin.

World wrestling entertainment (WWE) signed him in year 2001

Cena previously held the OVW heavyweight champion and the OVW Southern Tag Team championship, under the Ultimate Pro Wrestling, and the Ohio Valley Wrestling training. After debuting on Raw, he started playing a role of a hoodie-wearing foul-mouthed rapper which quickly helped him gain popularity.

While performing a hip toss during the wrestling match against Mr. Kennedy on smack down on October 1st in the year 2007, Cena’s Pectoral muscle fully received a tear which prevented him from completing the match.

Initially, he was cast in movies produced by Island Records, the company’s film division. Movies such as The Marine (2006) and 12 Rounds (2009) followed. Cena appeared bouncing alongside Mark Wahlberg in Daddy’s Home in 2018, and he voiced the lead character in the Fox Animation film Ferdinand that year. He also played in action films of Blockers and F9, and the noted Transformers related film, Bumblebee (2021). Over the years, he has been a 16 time world champion, has had numerous best seller books, has appeared on record for retrieving the most wishes to be granted, and has starred in big movies that were box office hits along with prime rated television shows.

People remember Cena to have defended the title by becoming the first to ever submit kurt angle in a triple threat submissions match at Unforgiven and later on at Survivor Series against Booker T. At that point of time, he also incorporated into his arsenal a new finishing move called the STFU (a Stepover Toehold Sleeper).

His rap album titled You Can’t See Me was released in 2005 and marked his first appearance in music. The album receives positive responses in which it is ranked as one of the best 15 albums in Billboard 200.

Besides wrestling, it is well known that Cena has done a lot of charity work such as helping ill children via Make A Wish Foundation. He is a donor too and has donated a lot of money from his own pocket. In 2009, He got married to Elizabeth Huberdeau who is an American real estate agent, however, they divorced in 2012. In 2018, he started his relationship with Shay Shariatzadeh, who is an engineer.

Cena’s success as a professional wrestler translated into more acting gigs and vice versa. He appeared in numerous films including The Marine (2006) and 12 Rounds (2009). He also was on TV programs such as Manhunt, Deal or No Deal and MADtv.

In 2005, he dropped his first album and began rapping with his cousin Tha Trademarc, which is titled You Can’t See Me. His entrance theme and a music video parody relating to the 1980s were both part of the album.

In 2001, he started training at Ultimate Pro Wrestling, which was associated with the OVW, a developmental spot for WWE. At OVW’s February 27 Raw, he made his Ring debut, defeating the Big Show to capture the OVW United States Championship. He then turned his attention towards the WWE Champion Brock Lesnar and began performing freestyle every week to call him out for a match.

He made his leap into acting with the film Marine (2006)

Cena made his acting debut in the 2006 action movie The Marine, which stars John Cena as a disgraced marine sent to rescue his wife from a group of jewel robbers. Kelly Carlson and Robert Patrick co-star in the film.

The movie did not shine in the cinemas, nevertheless, it went on to create a movie series that would have six parts, although Cena was only in the first one. It’s not a film worth watching out for, yet it was a great starting point for the wrestler who had always dreamt of being a film actress.

Elaborating on his acting career, Cena added several roles to his repertoire in the movies, such as, Trainwreck (2015), Ferdinand (2017), Blockers (2021), and Bumblebee (2018). The Marine in 2006 was his first role. It is an action thriller, though it did not impress movie critics. He then acted in 12 Rounds, which was a WWE Films project in 2009. The storyline features Cena as a Police detective who has a criminal ex-girlfriend who he arrested and the girlfriend gets kidnapped.

The film brings out his acting potential though it does resort to some stereotypes, which is quite understandable. Also, he acted in the 2017 U.S. war drama The Wall and Blockers where he plays a worried dad. In 2020 he again appeared in the titular role of the animated series Ferdinand and also starred with Keegan-Michael Key and Mark Wahlberg in the family movie Daddy’s Home 2. Besides that, he has provided the voice of a polar bear in the Dolittle movie released in 2021.

He previously appeared on the television show Deal or No Deal.

The producers of the show sought to let the audience experience Cena’s life beyond wrestling. He also featured in a couple of television shows including Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Celebrity Playlist on Fuse and G4’s Training Camp.

He has since gone on to star in many action films, including The Marine (2006) and 12 Rounds (2009). He has also authored a book for children and spends millions of dollars on the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

On October 1, 2007 Meanwhile on Raw during an open challenge events unfolded where Cena was able to finish the match but was medically advised never to fight again owing to an injury involving a torn pectoral muscle. Therefore, together with Rusev scripted attack, the only option left was surgery. This means his fans would not see him in the ring for any activity next nine months.
