OPPO Reno 12 Pro and Reno 12F Overview
Mid-range smartphones with quad-curved screens went on sale in China as OPPO unveiled the OPPO Reno 12 Pro and OPPO Reno 12F. There are integrated MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy chipsets as well as expandable storage in them.
In the early previews, a good performance and camera capabilities of both phones were noted. But can they contend against models like the Google Pixel 8a and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra?
Camera
OPPO Reno 12 Pro camera is impressive and takes detailed shots, especially in bright environments, as well as low light conditions. The 50MP primary lens, 8MP wide angle scoop, and 2MP telephoto lens with zoom are some of the impressive features. The edge detection might fall prey at times but the detail in photographs taken by the camera is life-like, even when it comes to selfies.
The device provides an intangible advantage and significantly improves the experience thanks to AI enhancing features as support, coupled with impressive night shots and vibrant transitions.
From the software perspective, both Reno 12 and Pro are powered by Android 14.1 based coloring OS UI developed by OPPO. Many relevant features supported by the AI such as text summarization as well as voice transcription are made available. There is a particular AI for photographs that processes images to eliminate unwanted content as well as alter their appearance for the better.
For those who are after a great design and an inexpensive smartphone with decent cameras, the OPPO Reno 12 is worth considering. Well, it has a good screen, with also powerful processor and a very big battery of 5000mAh. Its only disadvantage is the absence of support for USB Type-C which would be a turn off for some users. In general, this is very decent low cost smart phone with reasonable cameras that can be purchased for less than $400.
Display
You do not have to worry about poor quality image with OPPO Reno 12 Pro because it is fitted with an AMOLED panel that is bright and well saturated to produce vivid images as we saw in our hands-on review. Viewing content of full HD 1080p resolution on the screen panel is also possible as it doesn’t lead to banding or washing of content except for slight bleed of saturation towards the edges when in panoramic view.
Both devices demonstrate high-enough pixel density that makes an image maintain great contrast and detail even at maximum brightness. Their displays are capable of supporting HDR content for a rich video experience especially when streaming on Amazon Prime and Netflix, but like a good number of mid-tier Android smartphones, the difference is hardly appreciable at the end of the day.
Another conclusion that can be drawn is that when comparing the Oppo Reno 12 Pro and the standard Oppo Reno 12, the differences are marginal as both devices use efficient processors Nevertheless, the pro model uses the MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy SoC, which, however, is slightly faster than the standard model but is still more efficient than its peers.
On the other hand, the Reno 12F’s SoC can be considered weaker however works well when launching and using heavier applications and gaming. Furthermore, the two models come with average battery life, are not quite related in speaker performance, load and charging speed as well as design, which makes them ideal for that first-time smartphone user or someone looking to upgrade from an antiquated model.
Performance
The Reno 12 Pro is a bit nice phone with some camera performance in decent lighting, however, there are several elements that the phone is missing, like higher-end hardware for it to stand out in the market. But it has some sleek design along with good battery life.
The OPPO Reno 12 Pro-could be classified as a budget smartphone and it looks good and performs well. Иt can run some heavy 3D games because it has a modified version of Dimensity chipset inside It. It also features a big 6.7 inch AMOLED screen, a charger with fast charging technology, and a big 5000 mAh battery.
For the cameras, on the other hand, Reno 12 Pro has a decent 50 MP main sensor and a weak ultrawide sensor. While there is good lighting, Reno 12 Pro takes nice photos that are quite clear, and are full of good colors. When shooting in a blue and green saturated environment for example, the AI in the phone can be overly excited and oversaturate colors.
In the software aspect, OPPO has done quite a lot of optimisations and Reno 12 Pro is performing quite well. I was able to vent my throughout a couple of heavy 3D games without batting an eye. In addition, the Reno 12 Pro had a battery that could withstand a day of heavy user activity.
Battery Strengthen
The OPPO Reno 12 F, On the other hand, is a mid-range phone having some impressive camera capabilities and a reasonable user experience. It comes pre-installed with Android 14 operating system on the company’s ColorOS interface. The phone is inclusive of various innovative AI features, such as the ability to offer quick texting features, and convert text to speech. Furthermore, it features stereo speakers which enhances the audio experience. The phone’s display is great for watching or playing games because it is large.
SuperVOOC charging being particular, the battery is also standard focuses on productivity. While at the same breath, accepting that it is quicker than majority of phones including those by Google and Samsung as it takes only three hours and a few minutes to charge. Quite a lot of power is provided to enable one use a phone the entire day without recharging. Other features such as IR blaster, expandable storage stands out when comparing it to phones within the same bracket as the Reno 12 F.
The recent edition of Reno 12F from OPPO offers a classy and costly appeal even though there is no curved screen. Its flat architecture is nice to grip and does not give rise to any visual distortion when consuming full media content on the screen, and the fingerprint systems works well. Further, it also has support for the 5G networks which will ease a user’s day to day activities by providing faster downloads and better bandwidth. This smartphone has on offer a more muscular variant in the Reno 12 Pro which has distinct features including a sprightly 50MP telephoto camera, more RAM/Storage, and prominent use of a Gorilla Glass Victus 2 back.
