Donuts
A donut is a type of breakfast pastry consisting of sweet dough that is leavened with yeast and sugar, then fried. A donut can be a ring or a filled ball. The donut can also be covered with a glaze or icing and other flavors.
The batter consists of milk that activates yeast and sugar that enhances the yeast’s activity. Butter is also added to the batter to provide a deeper flavor and to soften the dough.
Shipley Do-nuts
The type of treat that beats all others, making it hard to lose weight, is a Shipley Do-nut consumed right out of the oven. A vast selection of doughnuts, kolaches among credits this Texas franchise which has over 350 outlets. These have now been added to all 350 stores currently in operation for a brief period: new Egg & Cheese kolaches, a dry stuffed pie.
The roots of the donut store go back to crude times of 1936 with the first 5$ dozen of donuts made of sugar and yeast and rolled around by hand, by Lawrence Shipley Sr at a 1417 Crocket Street bakery in Houston Texas.
The business has its headquarter in Houston and operates more than 300 outlets in 8 different states, with their latest store located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The firm was purchased in 2021 by Peak Rock Capital with the intention of the company to grow larger.
Not only do they sell awesome donuts but Shipley Do-Nuts also features a variety of beverages. Their Rainforest Alliance Certified house blend is enjoyed by their customers and consumers. It must also be mentioned that the donut making company is also charitable. They are the ones who organize the yearly Shipley Do-Nut Dash which is a 2 mile donut themed obstacle race to raise aims for Kid’s Meals Houston which is a non profit organization providing meals for preschoolers in poverty.
As for their donut company, they have the Do-Happy Rewards which allows members to receive a free donut or colechee every Monday when they make any purchase. Other than free donuts and kolaches, they can redeem points on their purchases and get customers rewards and offers.
Last in this list not in importance is Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop
This shop is located in Greenpoint and is one of the classic doughnut shops in New York City that is well liked by many. The doughnut shop features a vintage vibe with countertop seating, a black and white checkered floor along with waitresses attired in pastel pink color. Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop has been operating for years. It takes one back to the time around when inches $3-$4 gourmet doughnuts made a mark on the market. In a world of relentless changes, this is the best suited place to satisfy your craze for an original feel.
Peter Pan is a family-run establishment that has been in business since the 1950’s serving the local customers. Their assortment of doughnuts from the classic tomb to the other more complex forms is bound to satisfy all tastes. Moreover, there are also number of savory items on the menu that are also worth trying. Interestingly, they offer a yeast style glazed twist that is drenched in a tantalizing glaze and sprinkled with sweetened coconut shreds.
The shop is quite cheap, given that you most probably will not find anywhere better donuts than in this particular one. It is worth visiting when you are in the neighborhood. I highly suggest the honey glazed, or even any than their creme stuffed donuts. And their chocolate sprinkled donut is not to be overlooked since it provides a clever use of texture on a thin layer.
The Donut Pub
Despite the crowding and the smallness that defines New York City, this bakery seems to have a completely understandable frenzy. An iced coffee with some milk, however, isn’t the woman’s type of drink. She can however drink herself some calories from the ‘counter rounds’ she refers to as, ‘The copper fusion concealed in marble brilliancy.’
Most of which these corner shops have, are classic Canadian and American delicacies such as: Old fashioned doughnuts, sugar rings, chocolate crullers and many other cream-filled pastries. In fact, I’d recommend picking two such pastries as no one go to such a bakery with just one or two pastries of a single flavor; takes the fun out of it, and conveniently, there is still space at the marbled countertop to rest one’s behind.
The lives of Coney Island natives changed when the famous buzzy gerlud took note of the stand on 14th street started expanding. One Day There Was A Sunk In Doughnuts Across The Store, and primed the collapse of donut pub but even picture that it would actually flourish.
Among the items available at The Pub nut free, delicious croissant donuts and specially maple bacon doughnuts but there is also a limited selection of 17 sandwiches. That said, what attracts the great majority of the clientele, and where they spend most of the time, is the lunch counter in back. They are tuna salad and turkey and ham with a typical deli sandwich assortment. The food is somewhat messy but at least it is cheap and fills you up. This is the first installment in Dining in the Past Tense where Eater NY covers places that seem to have remained homey even after decades or centuries have passed.
Moe’s Doughs
Moe’s Doughs in Greenpoint is an old fashioned donut shop that specializes in delayed order made donuts. It’s a relatively new shop but they seem to be doing quite well already. Doughnuts are to be freshly made, so the waiting time is extremely short, usually. Mouthwatering as they may be, the doughnuts have very nice prices.
The delicious delicacies were made by Mohamed Saleh, who was the main chef of Peter Pan for 18 years before starting his own shop in 2014. He was somehow able to keep the price extremely low while also making sure that the minimum selection remained large and relatively new. You can get a classic sugared jelly donut or the croissant donut, Greenpoint’s very own take on the Dominique Ansel cult favorite.
The doughnuts are wave knobs of traditional charmers, but they also turn it up a notch with the extravagance, and make these dessert donuts rather than breakfast pastries. The Samoa tasted like the girl scout’s cookie, the Salted Caramel was mouthwatering, and the Maple Bacon was extremely sticky.
When it comes to ice cream donuts or even pretzel peanut butter lobster tails. Even better, you can sit back at home and enjoy their amazing donuts which helped them established the business. Order online and check for delivery options provided below.
