BYD SEAL Electric Car- Officially Launched In Pakistan
BYD SEAL is a dual-motored sport sedan with serious power that’s fun to drive. With great dealer back-up and super-short lead times, it should entice buyers to look beyond the Tesla Model 3.
Its spacious cabin feels light thanks to not having a drivetrain hump. It also has good headroom for rear passengers.
iTAC (intelligence Torque Adaption Control) System
The Seal is the second European model to adopt BYD’s Ocean Aesthetics design language, resulting in a dynamic and intelligent vehicle. It is available in rear-wheel drive (Design) and four-wheel drive with front- and rear-electric motors (Excellence), enabling a WLTP driving range of up to 570 km.
The iTAC system allows the driver to choose between three modes: normal, sport and snow. The normal mode delivers balanced performance, while the sport mode offers more aggressive acceleration and sharper handling. Snow mode optimises the car’s power delivery and traction control for challenging road conditions.
All Seal models feature a comprehensive suite of safety features, including dual seat pre-tensioners, seatbelt reminders, a 360° camera and traffic sign recognition. All models are also fitted with automatic emergency braking and blind spot detection.
e-Platform 3.0
Athletic, sporty and intelligent, the SEAL’s state-of-the-art vehicle architecture based on the e-Platform 3.0 with Cell-to-Body technology guarantees unprecedented torsional rigidity and benefits driving dynamics. The car’s rear-drive/four-drive power architecture, front double wishbone and rear five-link suspension also contribute to its exceptional handling capability.
Using the new generation of BYD’s lithium iron phosphate “blade” batteries, the 82-kWh SEAL offers a WLTP-combined range of up to 570 miles and delivers power output of 230 kW (312 horsepower) in the single-motor Design model and 390 kW (523 horsepower) from two motors in the Excellence AWD version.
Thanks to the battery pack’s CTB integration with the traditional body floor structure the SEAL has an outstanding interior volume and storage capacity. Even six-footers will have room to stretch out in the back without compromising on headroom.
Ocean Aesthetics Design
Aesthetically, the Seal is both elegant and sporty. Its state-of-the-art vehicle architecture based on the e-Platform 3.0 with Cell-to-Body technology guarantees exceptional torsional rigidity and driving dynamics.
The Battery Energy Storage System (BEVS) integrates the batteries directly into the structure of the car, lowering its height by 15mm and optimising space utilisation. The cobalt-free ‘Blade’ battery delivers a high power and energy density with an outstanding WLTP range of up to 570 km.
On the road, the BYD Seal feels like a serious rival to established electric saloons and hatches such as the BMW i4, Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2. It’s quick and has a good amount of fun on a twisty road, but its ride quality can be a little harsh at low-speed.
Optimised Powertrain
The iTAC system recognises the conditions of the road more quickly, enabling the distribution of drive torque to be adjusted quicker and unlocking the vehicle’s full performance potential. This also elevates overall handling comfort and enhances safety.
The advanced e-Platform 3.0, Cell-to-Body technology and in-house developed Blade Battery deliver unparalleled levels of torsional rigidity, driving dynamics and energy efficiency. This provides a comfortable WLTP range of up to 570 km.
The sleek nature-inspired design of the SEAL embodies power and athleticism. Its low to-the-ground body style slices through the wind like a razor blade and its dynamic silhouette captures the power of momentum. Its drag coefficient of just 0.32 Cd demonstrates exceptional aerodynamics. A high-efficiency heat pump system regulates the battery temperature with minimal energy consumption.
Enhanced Safety
The Seal also has advanced driver-assistance systems that go beyond what you’ll find in most electric cars. They include a 360-degree camera, a full suite of assisted driving features, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot detection, active lane assist and traffic sign recognition.
The 15.6-inch touchscreen is big and clear, playing host to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (although you’ll have to delve into the menus to set it up). The lower front sub-dash area offers more than 20 flexible storage spaces, including a functional semi-open storage space beneath the centre armrest box.
The Seal is available with either imitation leather or genuine leather seating depending on the trim level. The higher-spec models also feature bolstered sports seats with electronic adjustability, memory settings and heating.
Optimised Interior
The Seal rides more comfortably than you might expect for a car that’s designed to do 530bhp and sprint from 0-62mph in five seconds flat. Its four-wheel drive Excellence version has electric motors on the front and rear axles (160 kW each) for a combined power output of 390 kW (313 bhp).
The blade battery not only serves as energy storage but is integrated into the vehicle’s structure, providing exceptional torsional rigidity, widening the handling limits and improving cabin space. It also reduces vehicle height, which adds to its aerodynamic performance.
A panoramic roof makes the cabin feel spacious and airy, and there’s plenty of head room for two six-footers up front to avoid bumping elbows. There’s a good amount of useful storage in the door bins and a deep cubby beneath the centre console.
Optimised Luggage
The 2024 BYD Seal sits above the Atto 3 and Dolphin in the Chinese manufacturer’s electric car range and has its sights set on toppling the Tesla Model 3. This mid-sized EV sedan has 400 litres of luggage space plus another 53L under the bonnet. It also features more than 20 flexible storage spaces throughout the interior.
Its sleek nature-inspired design was designed under the supervision of BYD global design director Wolfgang Egger and demonstrates power and athleticism with its full sculpted curves that follow the momentum of waves. It also boasts one of the lowest drag coefficients in the industry at 0.219 Cd.
The SEAL offers a luxurious interior that includes leather upholstery for the Dynamic, Premium and Performance models. Those in the front seats enjoy sports-style bolstered seats with electronic adjustability and memory settings. Its advanced windscreen heads-up display also reveals vital vehicle data.
